                                                Why Theta Xi?

1. An Opportunity to become a tested, and proven, leader.  True leadership is learned.   And the best way to learn it is to do it.  Beta Zeta offers opportunities to lead, freedom to grow, and mentors to strategize with.  Leadership can take on many forms, from being a chapter officer, to representing Theta Xi in a campus group such as SGA to taking the lead on a charity fundraiser or social event.

Further, mentors can provide brothers with specific guidance on how to tackle the challenges of college life, and life after college.  They can be upperclassmen in the fraternity who can help ”show you the ropes” in the classroom and in the fraternity.  Mentors are also alumni – both recent alumni and long-standing - with diverse experience ranging from top-10 business school graduates and entreprenuers, to military officers, to senior-executives in the technology, journalism, engineering, energy, and hospitality fields.  What do they all have in common?  Leadership skills that they honed at Auburn, and a commitment to the Auburn University Chapter of Theta Xi.

2. Social calendar that traditionally includes formals, pledge swaps, band parties, and the less structured evening get-togethers and road trips.

3. True commitment to academic and social balance.  It's not just lip-service.  The Beta Zeta Chapter of Theta Xi Fraternity at Auburn University has a proven track record of academic performance.    Young men graduating from Beta Zeta are at the top of their class.  They are going to medical school, to law school, to the high-tech industry, to serve our country, and to leading media companies.  What is it about these individuals that helps them to excel?  These men have had a richer college experience, and have shown the ability to succeed while balancing different and seemingly divergent responsibilities.  This type of ability is sought after by admissions boards and hiring managers alike.

4. Deep, and engaged, alumni bench for mentoring and networking.  It’s been demonstrated time, and time again, that strong mentoring is highly correlated to success.  This is especially true for young men in college.  Our alumni interact with undergraduate brothers on a regular basis and make themselves available to strategize about leadership, career paths, and personal decisions.

5. House on old row within easy walking distance of campus.  Our house has recently received $250k of upgrades in 2010, and was built in 1962 with the leadership of outstanding alumni, including Dr. S.A.Edgar, a professor at Auburn.  The house is a five minute walk from the new sorority dorms, and a 15 minute walk to the center of Auburn’s campus.  And for the centrally located brothers of Theta Xi, it’s just “home” while they are at college.

6. A richer college experience.  One classic critique of joining any fraternity or sorority is that you’re “buying friends.”   The reality, at Auburn University Theta Xi, is that you are pooling together resources -  including your life experience, and your most innovative ideas - to create a college experience, the sum of which is greater than any of its parts.  Yes, there is a cost involved, but remember that cost offsets other costs typically incurred by undergraduates.  Talk to any senior undergraduate or alumni of Beta Zeta and you’ll likely hear that the social engagement, leadership experience, and life-long friends gained at the Auburn University Chapter of Theta Xi are nearly priceless.

7. Friendships that last a lifetime.  It’s not just a cliché’, it is real.  There is a difference between a guy that you share a dorm-room with, or even a good study partner, and individuals that you solve problems with, experience life with, and build an organization with, over four years.   After graduation, members of our fraternity are more likely to spend time together, more likely to visit campus, and more likely to be a strong networker.  It happens all the time, and not just at homecoming and alumni events.  Alumni go on ski trips together, some work together, their kids often play together, they regularly get together after work, and yes, they still talk about how to build the Beta Zeta Chapter of Theta Xi, further.
